  1. Set your water heater to 120 degrees F.
  2. Cut your water heater use in half by using low-flow aerating showerheads and faucets.
  3. Use bathroom fans wisely. In just one hour, these fans can pull out a houseful of warmed or cooled air. Install 15 minute, spring-wound timers on bathroom ventilator fans to prevent over use.
  4. Promptly repair dripping faucets. One drop a second can waste as much as 48 gallons of water a week. If the faucet leaks hot water, you're also wasting the energy used to heat it while depleting your hot water reserves.
  5. Don't let water run while you are shaving or brushing your teeth.
